Open Microsoft Word, go to File → Open, and select the PDF. Word converts it to an editable .docx file automatically - this process works well for simple single-column documents but may alter the layout of complex or heavily formatted PDFs. A PDF locked against editing shows an error when you try to change it. Once a PDF has a digital signature applied, editing the document invalidates the signature - this is by design, to prevent tampering with signed documents. If you are the signer and need to make a correction, the typical approach is to remove the signature, make the change, and re-sign. If someone else signed the document, you should not be editing it after signature - contact the signer for a corrected version.
